Young Professionals no more, we’re simply Young Brooklyn.
You’ve probably seen events for our young professional event series over the last two years, but maybe you’ve wondered, YP, young professional... is that for me? We’ve certainly had many people ask us this. While we’ve never turned away any attendees for their perceived age or IDed at the door, the YP events were targeted to Old Brooklynites or admirers of the neighborhood in their mid-20s to 40s.
Gen-zs, Millennials, and young Gen-xers are moving to Old Brooklyn more and more every year due to small businesses opening, the proximity to downtown, and its affordability. But with the young professional name, something wasn’t quite right. It wasn’t a well-known term, and it brought on some confusion; how young is young? Is this event for me? Our goal going into the new year was to revamp this event series while being conscious of inclusive language in our marketing.
For 2025 we’ve rebranded to a new name, Young Brooklyn. Whether you consider yourself young or young at heart, if you’re interested in meeting other fans of Old Brooklyn, Young Brooklyn is for you. We host events during the 3rd week of each month. Previously, our events were mostly on Wednesday nights; we’ve expanded the range of days this year to open it up to people who may have been unable to attend in the past. These events are meant to showcase interesting spaces that you could frequent in the future. It’s an awesome place to meet neighbors and build community.
Last year, we hosted monthly happy hours at bars and coffee shops throughout the neighborhood, but this year we are mixing things up. Think yoga, whiskey tasting, bike rides, trivia nights, and coffee hangs. We don’t want to keep our attendees inside all the time, so look for more outdoor events during the warmer months. Old Brooklyn is always growing, and we want to explore it with you.
If you have cool ideas you would like to get other people in on, let us know! We can provide support such as marketing, food, and materials.
Join us at our next event on February 20th at Sixth City Cycles for Whiskeys of the World! Registration is required. Your ticket includes an Old Brooklyn rocks glass, dinner from 787 Café, and five whiskey samples. Click here to register!
