Take the ‘Eclipse Over Cleveland’ 15 Minute Challenge!
Monday, April 1, 2024
Eclipse mania has overtaken Cleveland! The local news is now overflowing with daily eclipse stories. But some people are still unconvinced! Many Clevelanders are dismissive about the eclipse… “Ah, I’ve seen one of them before, no big deal.” They might have seen a PARTIAL solar eclipse back in third grade and considered it unimpressive, but they haven’t seen anything like this!
We can’t emphasize it enough – the April 8 Eclipse Over Cleveland is NOT just any old partial eclipse like we’ve all seen before! This is a TOTAL solar eclipse, the rarest and most incredible sight anyone can hope to see in the heavens.
The experience of a total eclipse of the Sun is described in the recent Old Brooklyn News cover story, and you can read that for a colorful description. But whether or not you believe that story, or whether such an event interests you, just believe this one thing – totality is a very impressive sight. People who have experienced it crave a repeat performance. Those who can afford it travel to the ends of the earth to experience totality again… and again and again!
Do you suppose that maybe, just maybe, such experienced, veteran “eclipse chasers” know something the rest of us don’t? This rare experience is coming right here, to your neighborhood, FOR FREE! Old Brooklynites need not spend thousands of dollars traveling thousands of miles, but only have to step outside their doors for a few minutes to witness this spectacle. But people still have their excuses…. “Oh, I’m busy that day,” or “I have to work,” or “I have a doctor’s appointment,” or “that’s my nap time.” But even if you could not care less about the eclipse, consider that this is LITERALLY a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
I encourage everyone in Old Brooklyn (and all across Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and 2/3 of the State of Ohio) to Take the Eclipse Over Cleveland 15 Minute Challenge! Just go outside at 3:00 PM on April 8 to catch a smoke. If you don’t smoke, take a break anyway! What do you have to lose? I personally promise that by 3:15 you will have seen something you’ve never seen before, rain or shine! SO JUST DO IT!
And if you know someone like that – your grouchy brother-in-law or neighbor or coworker – tell them to quit bellyaching and just go out at 3:00 PM for a mere quarter hour, whether the sky is cloudy or clear. It’ll cost ZERO dollars, requiring ZERO miles of travel, and ZERO days off work. Who knows, afterwards, maybe they’ll even be glad they did!
Jay Ryan invites everyone to join Councilman Harsh at Loew Park on Monday, April 8 for CLEclipse Over Old Brooklyn, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, rain or shine, as we prepare for TOTALITY at 3:13 PM.
