Old Brooklyn’s Mightiest: Volunteers at the Heart of Our Community
You may have seen them beautifying the streets of Old Brooklyn, or maybe one has greeted you at one of our events. Who knows—one could even be your next-door neighbor! Our Mighty Volunteers are an essential part of Old Brooklyn CDC’s work and the neighborhood itself. These MVPs logged an impressive 783 volunteer hours over the past year!
This year, we were also grateful for collaborative support from Cleveland Metroparks, Julie Adams House, Refuge Church, Busch Funeral Home, The Young Latino Network, and MCPc. They each joined us in corridor clean-ups that bring lasting impact and make Old Brooklyn a more welcoming and safer neighborhood.
Our MVPs are a remarkable group of engaged, passionate, and motivated residents committed to keeping Old Brooklyn a great place to grow. Special shout-outs go to this year’s top volunteers: Annie Myatt, with 44 hours dedicated to nearly every farmers market; Chris Jeon, with 23 hours spent at various events like our farmers market and street festival; and Logan Sindone, with 17.5 hours across many projects, always eager and ready to help.
Why do they do it? In the words of one volunteer, “I had a blast and felt like I met so many cool people that I can’t wait to see again.” Our volunteer opportunities provide a chance not only to make their neighborhood a better place, but to connect with neighbors, and make new friends.
If you’re interested in getting involved, mark your calendar for our Clean Up//Meet Up on November 9th. This event will combine a community cleanup on Pearl Rd. with a volunteer appreciation brunch generously provided by Gus’s—a small way to say thank you to everyone who makes this community brighter.
We are also thankful to MetroHealth for funding this year’s Mighty Volunteer Program. Their partnership has made this work possible, helping us continue building a strong, welcoming, and vibrant Old Brooklyn for all.
